## Runs On

What it takes to serve bert-large-NER (334M parameters): the memory its weights need at each precision, and the cheapest way to rent enough data-center GPUs to hold them.

| Precision | Weights | Memory needed | Cheapest setup | Per hour | Also fits |
| --- | --- | --- | --- | --- | --- |
| 16-bit | 0.7 GB | 0.8 GB | 1x [MI300X](https://savrn.com/ai-index/pricing/gpus/mi300x) (192 GB) Vultr | $1.85 | [1x H100](https://savrn.com/ai-index/pricing/gpus/h100) $1.99 · [1x MI325X](https://savrn.com/ai-index/pricing/gpus/mi325x) $2.00 |
| 8-bit | 0.3 GB | 0.4 GB | 1x [MI300X](https://savrn.com/ai-index/pricing/gpus/mi300x) (192 GB) Vultr | $1.85 | [1x H100](https://savrn.com/ai-index/pricing/gpus/h100) $1.99 · [1x MI325X](https://savrn.com/ai-index/pricing/gpus/mi325x) $2.00 |

Memory is the weights at that precision plus 20% for the runtime and a short context; a long context needs more. Prices are the lowest on-demand hourly rates in the [SAVRN Index](https://savrn.com/ai-index/pricing/gpus), read Oct 25, 2026.

## SAVRN's Notes on bert-large-NER

This is the larger sibling of the most downloaded English NER model in our catalog. Same author, same CoNLL-2003 training data, same four entity types, but built on BERT large with 334M parameters. The extra capacity buys some accuracy on ambiguous names at roughly three times the compute of the base model.

Choose it when misses cost real money, for example in compliance or due-diligence extraction, and the base model's errors show up in review. For bulk tagging where speed matters more, the base version is the sensible default. Both carry the MIT license, so commercial use is allowed with the notice kept.

### Model description

bert-large-NER is a fine-tuned BERT model that is ready to use for Named Entity Recognition and achieves state-of-the-art performance for the NER task. It has been trained to recognize four types of entities: location (LOC), organizations (ORG), person (PER) and Miscellaneous (MISC).

Specifically, this model is a bert-large-cased model that was fine-tuned on the English version of the standard [CoNLL-2003 Named Entity Recognition](https://www.aclweb.org/anthology/W03-0419.pdf) dataset.

If you'd like to use a smaller BERT model fine-tuned on the same dataset, a [bert-base-NER](https://savrn.com/models/bert-base-ner) version is also available.

### Intended uses & limitations

#### How to use

You can use this model with Transformers pipeline for NER.

## Questions About bert-large-NER

### How much GPU memory does bert-large-NER need?

About 0.8 GB at 16-bit and 0.2 GB at 4-bit: the weights (334M parameters) plus a working margin. A long context needs more.

### What is the cheapest GPU to run bert-large-NER on?

At 16-bit, 1x MI300X from $1.85 an hour; at 4-bit, 1x MI300X from $1.85 an hour, at the lowest on-demand prices the SAVRN Index lists.

### Can I use bert-large-NER commercially?

Yes. bert-large-NER is released under MIT License. The MIT License is a short permissive license. It permits commercial use, modification and redistribution, provided the copyright notice and permission notice are included.

### What is bert-large-NER's context length?

512 tokens, from the maximum position embeddings in its published configuration.
