## Runs On

What it takes to serve qnli-electra-base (109M parameters): the memory its weights need at each precision, and the cheapest way to rent enough data-center GPUs to hold them.

| Precision | Weights | Memory needed | Cheapest setup | Per hour | Also fits |
| --- | --- | --- | --- | --- | --- |
| 16-bit | 0.2 GB | 0.3 GB | 1x [MI300X](https://savrn.com/ai-index/pricing/gpus/mi300x) (192 GB) Vultr | $1.85 | [1x H100](https://savrn.com/ai-index/pricing/gpus/h100) $1.99 · [1x MI325X](https://savrn.com/ai-index/pricing/gpus/mi325x) $2.00 |

Memory is the weights at that precision plus 20% for the runtime and a short context; a long context needs more. Prices are the lowest on-demand hourly rates in the [SAVRN Index](https://savrn.com/ai-index/pricing/gpus), read Oct 25, 2026.

## SAVRN's Notes on qnli-electra-base

This cross-encoder answers one question: can this paragraph answer this question? It was trained on GLUE QNLI, derived from SQuAD, and at 109M parameters it runs on a CPU.

Apache 2.0 allows commercial use. It is useful as a filter in retrieval pipelines to drop passages that do not contain an answer. For general reranking, the MS MARCO cross-encoders in our catalog are a better fit.

By Sentence Transformers - Cross-Encoders, published under apache-2.0, revision c7dea87c98b2.

### Cross-Encoder for SQuAD (QNLI)

This model was trained using [SentenceTransformers](https://sbert.net) [Cross-Encoder](https://www.sbert.net/examples/applications/cross-encoder/README.html) class.

### Training Data

Given a question and paragraph, can the question be answered by the paragraph? The models have been trained on the [GLUE QNLI](https://savrn.com/papers/glue-a-multi-task-benchmark-and-analysis-platform-for-natural-language-understanding) dataset, which transformed the [SQuAD dataset](https://rajpurkar.github.io/SQuAD-explorer/) into an NLI task.

### Performance

For performance results of this model, see [SBERT.net Pre-trained Cross-Encoder][https://www.sbert.net/docs/pretrained_cross-encoders.html].

### Usage

Pre-trained models can be used like this:

```
from sentence_transformers import CrossEncoder
model = CrossEncoder('cross-encoder/qnli-electra-base')
scores = model.predict([('Query1', 'Paragraph1'), ('Query2', 'Paragraph2')])
#e.g.
scores = model.predict([('How many people live in Berlin?', 'Berlin had a population of 3,520,031 registered inhabitants in an area of 891.82 square kilometers.'), ('What is the size of New York?', 'New York City is famous for the Metropolitan Museum of Art.')])
```

### Usage with Transformers AutoModel

You can use the model also directly with Transformers library (without SentenceTransformers library):

Currently, the best way to use our models is with the most recent version of sentence-transformers. pip install -U sentence-transformers Let's say you have a query, and you want to rerank a set of documents. You can do that with only one line of code: Install transformers.js npm i @xenova/transformers Let's say you have a query, and you want to rerank a set of documents. In JavaScript, you need to add a function: You can use the large model via our API as follows: The API comes with additional features, such as a continous trained reranker!
