Five datasets sit under text retrieval on our hub, and four of them are legal corpora from Benjamin J Barber. The work they support is lookup: a question comes in and the system returns the code section or statute article that answers it, so the publisher ships them as parquet tables of instruments and sections. Nearly all the bytes are in american_municipal_law, 2,027,855,464 in total, covering 47,081 html sections across 15 states and 40 jurisdictions from a snapshot taken September 17, 2026, and it leads on downloads at 1,460. The Nepal, Qatar and Solomon Islands snapshots together come to about 15 MB, with Qatar the only one in the 10K to 100K row band. The fifth entry, chinese-ai-and-robotics-open-intelligence from Le, tracks Chinese work on language models, humanoid locomotion, 3D vision and neuromorphic edge processors in 6,668,303 bytes.
On your own hardware, disk is not the question; the whole category is about 2 GB, and the effort goes into indexing 47,081 sections. The license column is where we slow down. Four entries are marked other, so the terms live in each repository and get read one at a time, and the publisher says the official source prevails over the corpus, so point users back to the authentic text. The cc-by-nc-4.0 on the Chinese set means attribution and no commercial use.
