A chrome-less, unrestricted Android browser with built-in AI, built on GeckoView (the engine behind Firefox for Android) with real WebExtensions support and a developer console.

Design principles

1. No restrictions by default — OFFDIGITZ deliberately diverges from conventional browsers: - No tracking protection / content blocking (Gecko defaults stand) - Extension install permissions auto-granted (no dialogs) - about:config enabled — full engine configuration surface - Remote debugging always on - Optional HTTP/SOCKS5 proxy support (see below)
2. Chrome-less UI — no URL bar, no toolbar, no tab strip. Edge-to-edge content; one floating ⌘ button summons the command palette that routes everything.
3. AI built in — chat with Hugging Face models or any OpenAI-compatible endpoint; keys live only on your device.

Using it

• ⌘ palette: type anything → ↗ Go to / Search / Ask AI; filter commands; BOOKMARKS and RECENT history suggestions as you type. Autofocus means just open and type.

• Bookmarks: ⌘ → Bookmark this page toggles the current page; Bookmarks opens the manager (open/delete, JSON import/export). Bookmarks appear as palette suggestions and sync (encrypted) to OneDrive with the Wallet.
• Downloads: any non-renderable response is captured to the app's Downloads directory with live progress, cancel, and open — see ⌘ → Downloads.
• Gestures: edge-swipe right/left → back/forward; two-finger horizontal swipe → switch tabs; pull down from the top → command palette. Pull-to-refresh reloads the page.
• Private tabs: ⌘ → New private tab opens a usePrivateModesession — no history, no autofill, no persistence; marked in the tray.
• Reader mode & NAVITA page context: a bundled pagebridge@offdigitz extension exposes the visible page text and a Readability extraction over a native port (GeckoView has no JS-eval API). Reader mode renders a clean article view; Ask NAVITA about this pagegrounds the AI with the current page text; the chat shows a Summarize chip.
• Biometric Wallet: the vault is gated behind a fingerprint / face / device-credential prompt (falls open if no lock is enrolled).
• Password generator: the Wallet's Add loginrow has a generator (20-char, symbols) that prefills and copies to the clipboard.
• HTTPS-Only mode: optional (Network settings) — top-level http:// loads are transparently upgraded to https://.
• Scroll & history restore: session saveState()/restoreState() restores scroll position and per-tab back/forward history across restarts.
• Add-ons: paste an AMO URL or direct .xpi link → Install (permissions auto-granted; Gecko still validates Mozilla signatures — engine-level, not embedder-configurable). Enable/disable/uninstall per add-on.
• Dev console (two layers): the bundled devconsole@offdigitz extension injects Eruda into every page and bridges console logs into the native Console screen; desktop Firefox DevTools attach via about:debugging over USB/Wi-Fi.
• AI setup: ⌘ → AI settings → paste your Hugging Face token (or an OpenAI-compatible base URL/key — OpenAI, Groq, or Ollama on your PC at http://PC-IP:11434/v1). Keys are stored in SharedPreferences on-device only.
• Network & proxy: HTTP / SOCKS5 (with remote-DNS toggle) / System modes. GeckoView has no public proxy API (bugzilla 1525486), so config rides the supported configFilePath YAML-prefs mechanism and applies at engine start — Save & Restart relaunches the app (tabs are restored).
• Session restore: open tabs, active tab, per-tab scroll position and back/forward history persist across restarts (private tabs excluded).
• Hardware back navigates the page before leaving the app.

Note: the 1.6.0 source in this repo has not yet been compiled into an APK — build it yourself (see Building) or wait for the published 1.6.0 binaries.

Enable "install unknown apps" for your file manager, then install. Earlier versions (0.7.0–0.8.0, app id com.offdigitz.browser) upgrade in place; pre-rename versions (nova, dev.nova.browser) install separately — uninstall those.

Building

ABI splits are on: per-ABI release APKs (~192 MB) vs universal (~514 MB). Release builds are debug-signed for installability; supply a real keystore before distribution. The build fetches eruda.min.js into assets — in CI it's fetched from jsdelivr at build time.

Version history

Honest caveats & deferred work

• 1.6.0 is source-only — the new code is written and statically reviewed but has not been compiled or device-tested in this environment (no Android SDK present). Build it before relying on it.
• Reader mode and NAVITA page context depend on the bundled pagebridge extension's native port; if the port isn't connected yet (very early in a page's life) those commands report unavailable and fall back gracefully.
• Tab thumbnails are captured for the active tab as pages settle (GeckoView.capturePixels()); tabs never brought to the foreground show a favicon-letter placeholder.
• Proxy changes (and the USB/ADB remote-debugging toggle) require the Save & Restart flow (engine constraint, documented in-UI). HTTPS-Only applies immediately.
• Biometric gate falls open when no device lock/biometric is enrolled (by design) so the vault is never unreachable.
• Deferred: real production keystore swap before public distribution; download pause/resume; per-tab thumbnail capture for background tabs.
