The data center boom is not abstract in Los Angeles County: it is on the ground here. Its power plants have 14,115 MW of capacity, 65% of it natural gas, the 2nd largest fleet in California. 2,666 MW has retired here since 2019, including AES Redondo Beach LLC (natural gas, 1,316 MW, 2023). The SAVRN Data Center Map lists 77 data centers in Los Angeles County, 16% of California's total. 2,244 MW of that came online in 2019 or later, mostly battery storage. Los Angeles County is home to Los Angeles, Long Beach, Santa Clarita and Glendale, plus the unincorporated community of Marina del Rey.
