Power Supply Chain and Demand in Illinois

What the build-out changed in Illinois
Illinois is in the middle of the pack, with a few sharp signals worth watching. Data processing and hosting jobs grew 53.9% from 2019 to 2025, 13th of 46 states that disclose the industry. Developers have announced $38.5B of data center capital in Illinois, 12th among the 31 states with a disclosed figure. The data center industry now accounts for 2.1% of Illinois's economy, the 20th largest share of any state (the median state is 1.8%), counting the industry's in-state suppliers and payrolls. Households pay part of the cost: residential prices are +10.7% year to date, the 12th fastest increase of 51. Factory employment is the exception: manufacturing jobs are -2.3% against August 2019.
