Power Supply Chain and Demand in Indiana

MISO runs most of Indiana's grid. 5,402 MW of new generation is planned in Indiana, 1,650 MW of it under construction or built and awaiting operation, against 4,091 MW of planned retirements through 2030. 82 data centers are identified in the state. Residential electricity averaged 17.04¢/kWh in 2026 through July, +7.4% from a year earlier. Unemployment was 3.3% in August 2026, and construction employment is +24.5% against August 2019. The SAVRN trackers hold 40 local moratoria or restrictions for Indiana across all statuses (31 in force) and 21 named projects on the Delay Watchlist.
What the build-out changed in Indiana
Indiana is building power faster than most states, and the jobs data shows it. Commercial electricity sales, the class that includes data centers, are +14.6% year to date, 4th in the country. Electrical contractor jobs, the trade every data center, substation and plant needs first, grew 34.8% from 2019 to 2025, 8th in the country. Data processing and hosting jobs grew 58.6% from 2019 to 2025, 8th of 46 states that disclose the industry. Pushback is organized: the SAVRN trackers hold 40 local moratoria or restrictions in Indiana, 10th in the country. Factory employment is the exception: manufacturing jobs are -4.6% against August 2019.
