The finding

What the build-out changed in Nevada

Nevada is building power faster than most states, and the jobs data shows it. Planned generation equals 34% of the power plants Nevada runs today, one of the steepest build-outs in the country (5th). Commercial electricity sales, the class that includes data centers, are +9.0% year to date, 5th in the country. Power and communication line construction jobs grew 62.7% from 2019 to 2025 (6th of 44). The weak spot: announced data center capital ranks 25th of 31 at $7.2B.

Questions

Nevada power, answered from the record

How much new power generation is planned in Nevada?

EIA's August 2026 inventory lists 6,672 MW of planned generators in Nevada, 2,254 MW of it under construction or built. By capacity the pipeline is solar 56%, battery storage 44%, other 0%. The largest single unit is Libra Solar (700 MW, Libra Solar LLC). Owners plan to retire 332 MW from 2026 to 2030.

Who runs the power grid in Nevada?

Non-RTO (utility-run) serves most of Nevada, which means vertically integrated utilities plan and dispatch generation under the state commission. No data center load is tracked in its queues yet.

Are electricity prices rising in Nevada?

Residential electricity averaged 13.53¢/kWh from January to July 2026, +2.6% on a year earlier, the 43rd fastest increase of 51. Commercial sales, the class that includes data centers, changed +9.0%.

Is planned generation in Nevada on schedule?

14 of 16 planned units of 50 MW or more not yet under construction are past the latest date to order a step-up transformer (more than 160 weeks) for their planned in-service date. They hold schedule only if equipment is already on order.

Is the build-out creating trade jobs in Nevada?

Construction employment is +20.7% against August 2019. Electrical contractor jobs went from 11,086 in 2019 to 13,994 in 2025 (+26.2%, 14th in the country).

What do electricians earn in Nevada?

The median electrician in Nevada earned $73,570 in May 2025, 2.46 times the median cashier, and power-line installers earned $96,560 (BLS OEWS).

Which counties in Nevada have the most planned generation?

By planned nameplate capacity: Clark County (4,230 MW), Lyon County (1,400 MW), White Pine County (600 MW).

Does Nevada have a data center moratorium?

The SAVRN Moratorium Tracker holds 2 state-level measures (1 enacted) and 11 local moratoria or restrictions in Nevada, 10 of them in force, 32nd most in the country.
